About me and my Clients

My name is Michael,

And I’ve been specializing in women’s short haircuts since I graduated from beauty school in New York City in 1985, And I opened my first salon in 1992, Ever since I’ve always Preferred to work in my salon by myself, like an artist in his studio . I don’t consider myself a business man in the hair salon business, I’m just doing I love to do on my own and by myself .

My salon is NOT gender neutral – it’s a women’s ONLY salon. I do all haircuts any style.  There is NO haircut that I haven’t already done over and over since the 1980s or can’t do.  My salon is queer friendly, but not just because I do only women’s short haircuts, I’m just very opened minded and fully-support the gay community.

'I LEARNED TO CUT HAIR BY DOING NEW WAVE ERA CUTS ON WOMEN IN THE 1980S'

“Technically any face shape can pull off a pixie, it just takes a bit of confidence!" assures Anh. The most important thing is getting the right type of pixie for your face.

Which Face Shapes Look Good With Short Hair:

  • Oval Face Type – Great Match! If you have an oval face shape, don't worry, any short haircut will look good on you.
  • Heart Shape Face – Choose a Pixie. Pixies look good on a heart-shaped faces.
  • Long Faces – Make a Shaggy Lob.
  • Square Face – Pick a Bob with Bangs.
  • Round face – Try Angled Bob.

The Perfect Pixie

There’s NO certain way to style a perfect pixie.
You should NOT have to use gel, wax, or paste to style it.
And if some ”stylist” tells you otherwise-
then you got a bad haircut!
You should be able to just mess it all up- with nothing in it,
And it should still look good
Your nape hair should flow naturally with out any lines.
You shouldn’t have a little mullet going on. (unless you want one)
You shouldn’t have to paste down your cowlick’s with wax.
If your crown hair is sticking up ,It was cut to short.
The top should be longer than the sides and lower back.
You shouldn’t look so scary in the morning .
A perfect pixie should still look good after three months.
A perfect pixie will not grow out of shape-Just into a longer style.

What MY Clients Have To Say

“I’ve lived in NYC for over 30 years, and Michael represents what this great city, and the East Village in particular, was founded upon–Artists doing what they do best at a fee that is unassuming, unpretentious, and affordable for all.

Michael is a kindhearted soul with the purest of intentions. Two clients before me received the most transformative haircuts I’ve ever seen. Michael treated us all with kindness and respect–offering us tea, water, hot chocolate. After he finished with his clients he asked if they were students so he could pass on a student discount from the already affordable $45 charge.

I’m Michael’s age and I love my haircut! I showed him pics of what I wanted and he agreed to one that he felt was “more elegant” for my face and age, which I appreciated! He’s mindful about his work and cares about his clients.

Michael gave each one of us a little gift of shampoo and conditioner in an individually wrapped package as a token of his appreciation for our business.

Thank you, Michael, for reminding me why I live here!”

The Long and Short of it: your haircut options

Crops for Girls

In hot fuchsia font, Crops for Girls self-identifies as “New York City’s Salon For Women’s Short Haircuts”- a place that opens its doors to “only women” for “only short haircuts.” Michael, the sage behind the gender-bending cuts, has devoted himself to helping women to break free of beauty defined by Victorian locks since 1985 and offers up his services for $45 and $35 for students. What’s more, if a woman is willing to surrender her mane to crop-science, Michael will consider cutting it for free.

Despite some concerns about surrendering my traditional woman’s cut, I decided to take the dive and try the “boy-cut.” All discomfort is washed away, though, by the talent and flair of Michael and the saucy ambiance of the hot pink interior, retro music selection, and aggressive scalp scrubbing. So for girls in the mood to shake it up a bit and wishing to remain financially stable enough to buy groceries, pop down to see Michael and trust in his genius.
